Okay, so reading the skeleton man (and parts of night of skulls) again made me think far too much about their costumes next year:

  • Casey claims he isn’t dressing up this year, but he buys a bright red jacket and teases his hair. (Billy pretends he doesn’t know.)
  • Dot goes as a ghost; she wears all black besides the sheet and holds a sign that says, “BOO!”
  • Having gained some self-awareness, Heather goes as the lead Heather from Heathers. Marissa decides to support her and goes as Veronica. When they show up at her door, Heather asks her why she’s clutching a croquet mallet. Marissa replies, “Insurance.”
  • Holly borrows Sammy’s cap and binoculars and writes, “Sammy Keyes: Resident Sleuth/Do-Gooder,” on a shirt. Half of the people they meet think it’s really her.
  • In honor of the girls’ prior adventure (and since Casey said he’d get less candy if he went as a mummy without its head wrappings), Billy dresses up as a skeleton. His face paint is astonishingly realistic and glows in the dark.
  • Sammy goes as the Borsch Monster, a combination of Borsch and the marsh monster. When they get to his house his wife makes him pose for a picture with Sammy before she poses with her, “For our Christmas cards.”
